In a letter to FDA officials dated July 11, 2013, the FDA asked that the agency release “confidential information regarding this investigational drug” and the possible adverse effects of Celebrex, including information related to its safety.

The FDA’s letter to the agency also noted that Celebrex has been “discontinued” by FDA officials.

“FDA will continue to monitor and report adverse events that occur during clinical trials and in patients on placebo to the FDA’s Office of Inspector General (OIG). The OIG will monitor the adverse events and provide appropriate updates on the safety data to the FDA’s Office of Criminal Investigations (OICI) and the Office of Criminal Investigation (OICI-1),” the letter said.
The FDA will continue to monitor and report the adverse effects and other adverse events of Celebrex and the OIG will continue to monitor the OICI and the FDA’s reporting on the adverse effects and other adverse events.
An update to the OIG will be released on August 27, 2012, the OIG said. “The FDA’s Office of Criminal Investigation is continuing to investigate and report the adverse events and other adverse events of Celebrex and other drugs and products that are currently being marketed to consumers. The FDA’s Office of Criminal Investigations and the OICI-1 have received ongoing reports of adverse events and related information, which can be used to inform the FDA’s Office of Criminal Investigations and the OICI-1’s investigations and corrective actions.
